Last week it was reported that Joseph Staten had left his position in Microsoft after a long tenure with the company with work on the Halo franchise.
At the time, he had stated he would reveal his future plans. It hasn’t been long and now Staten has announced he’s joined with Netflix Games in the role as creative director.
“In my work life, there’s nothing I love more than collaborating with others to build worlds filled with iconic characters, deep mysteries, and endless adventures,” Staten said. “So today, I’m thrilled to announce that I’ve joined Netlix Games as Creative Director for a brand-new AAA multiplatform game and original IP. Let’s go!”
His tweet also confirms that Netflix is working on a AAA game that will be launched across multiple platforms, and will be a brand new IP to boot. While the new gig may be a surprise, what isn’t is Netflix’s goals to expand into the gaming space.
With him only just now joining the team, it’s likely that whatever game he is teasing will not see a release for years. However, Staten brings decades of experience dating back to the original Halo launch when he still worked with Bungie.
Meanwhile Halo Infinite, the last game Staten worked on, is available on Windows PC (via the Microsoft Store, Steam), Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. The game is also available on Xbox Game Pass. In case you missed it, you can find our thorough review on the game here.
