Joker 2 first trailer showcases Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga in bad romance

Joker 2 first trailer

Warner Bros. has finally shared the Joker 2 first trailer, fully titled Joker: Folie à Deux, and it’s quite the spectacle fans have been expecting.

The trailer opens with a look at Joaquin Phoenix reprising his role as Arthur Fleck – who later becomes the infamous Joker, now locked up in Arkham Asylum. We’re quickly introduced to newcomer Laga Gaga, who plays Joker’s new infatuation – Harley Quinn.

“I’m nobody. I haven’t done anything with my life like you have,” Harley Quinn says in the trailer, only to imitate shooting herself in the head with a finger gun.

It remains unclear how much of what happened at the end of the the original Joker film actually happened, though it doesn’t take long to raise more questions on what escapades Joker and Quinn get into with the sequel. After their chance enounter, the duo conspire to escape from Arkham.

The trailer teases the great escape of the budding psychopaths, mixed in with a cover of “What the World Needs Now Is Love.” The original Joker was presented as a brooding origin story of the supervillain, while its sequel takes the insanity to new heights.

“I’ll tell you what’s changed,” Joker says in the trailer. “I’m not alone anymore.”

The long-awaited sequel has been teased as a jukebox musical of sorts and the new trailer definitely gives hints of that. While director Todd Phillips said this isn’t entirely accurate, it will reportedly have lots of song and dance bits.
