John Wick spinoff The Continental reveals 1970s setting in first teaser

John Wick spinoff The Continental

Peacock has revealed the first teaser trailer for John Wick spinoff The Continental, a new prequel mini-series to the main film franchise.

The new three-part mini-series is set way before the films take place in the 2020s — in fact, it takes us back to the 1970s and is focused on the iconic triangle-block Continental hotel in New York City.

Iconic characters from the film series will return, albeit as their younger selves with appropriately younger actors like Collin Woodell as a young Winston, Ayomide Adegun as the young concierge Charon, among others.

There will naturally be new characters with some new characters like Cormac, who is played by none other than Mel Gibson himself. Fans can expect the miniseries to explore how the hotel became such an infamous host of assassins.

Lionsgate and Thunder Road Pictures are producing the series with Albert Hughes directing the first and last episode of The Continental, while Charlotte Brandstom directed the second. Greg Coolidge, Derek Kolstad, Shawn Simmons and Kirk Ward all co-wrote the show.

The very first John Wick spinoff – Ballerina – was recently confirmed to be premiering next summer. It stars Ana de Armas as yet another trained assassin, from the Russian crime family.

The Continental is premiering sometime in September 2023 – exclusively via Peacock.
