John Romero Announces Sigil, a New Megawad for Doom

Industry legend and game developer John Romero has announce Sigil, a spiritual successor to Doom, the iconic shooter he helped create decades ago.

The new game is coming to Windows PC sometime in mid-February of next year. The game is considered an “unofficial spiritual successor to The Ultimate Doom’s fourth episode.”

Today’s announcement comes 25 years after December 10th, 1993, the day when the original Doom launched. Fans can expect Sigil to include nine single player and nine deathmatch levels, and since its a megawad (a fan made add-on or mod for Doom), it’s entirely free. You’ll need the original Doom to run it, of course.

Limited Run Games are offering a standard physical release and a “Beast Box” release for the game.

The latest game in the Doom series, Doom Eternal, is currently in development for Windows PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Switch.
