Japanese Viewers Don’t Want Anime and Hollywood to Mix

Dragon Ball Evolution

A recent poll performed by the video distribution service 1Screen asked users what anime titles (if any) they wanted to see Hollywood bring to the silver screen; the answer was a resounding “nashi” (nothing).

According to Yahoo News, Japanese viewers overwhelmingly claimed they didn’t want Hollywood to adapt anything. The answer “Nothing” received over 450 votes with second place being Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba with a measly 60 in comparison.

Users cited feelings like “animation should be as it is” and “the fantasy is likely to be ruined” in live-action adaptations. A sentiment which has been echoed after Hollywood blunders like the live-action Dragon Ball Evolution movie and the seemingly forgotten Ghost in the Shell film.
