Japanese system engineer and Twitter user Yamagadal came up with a clever idea to keep people off his back while working to fix their systems. The problem solver is: cats.
This idea came on the front of how usually the person to receive the biggest brunt of complaints are the lower level reps, so he decided to try and alleviate that with error messages brought to users’ attention with cats. A stellar idea if I say so myself.
“If there was a system error, I put GIFs of cats that matched the type of error the user received,” the system engineer noted.
They added, “When people reached out to me they said ‘cats appeared’ and as they watched the cats their complaints were not as cold or harsh.”
However, things became interesting when the engineer noted “it became easier to diagnose the issue by asking them ‘what kind of cat is on the screen?'”
Cats and pictures of them on the internet have always been a symbiotic relationship since day one. The concept is even powerful enough that entire media companies were made around it like ICanHazCheezburger, and so on.
