Reports suggest that Japanese comedian Yoshimi Tokui will return to “entertainment activities,” after his absence from screens after controversy over unreported income.

Back in October 2019, Tokui was charged with not reporting his income from his one-person company, totaling over 100 million yen ($1 million) over a period of three years. This was later revealed to go back to March 2010 in later investigations.

“I sincerely apologize for not paying the required tax due to my own sloppiness and negligence, causing a great inconvenience to other citizens who are properly paying their taxes. I’m truly sorry,” Tokui stated in a press conference. His appearance on television had been stopped, including the reality program Terrace House.

Now, Neo-Tokyo 2099 reports that Tokui will return to “entertainment activities,” though it was unclear whether he would be returning to television specifically.

Tokui stated “This time, I am very sorry for bothering the public and all the people involved due to my tax issues and now distrust me.  From now own, I would like to reconsider my awareness of tax payments and I would like to reexamine myself.”

Tokui is employed by entertainment conglomerate Yoshimoto Kogyo Co., Ltd., and is part of a double-act “Tutorial” with Mitsunori Fukuda.
