Japanese Actor and Singer Haruma Miura Passes Away Aged 30 in Apparent Suicide

Japanese actor and singer Haruma Miura has been discovered dead at his home at age 30 in an apparent suicide.

Sora News 24 and the Japan Times report Miura was found hanging in a closet by his manager at his home in Minato Ward, Tokyo, on the afternoon of July 18th. He had not arrived for filming for an upcoming drama (The End of Money is the Start of Love). He was initially unresponsive, before later being confirmed deceased at hospital.

A suicide note was reportedly found at the scene, with the death being investigated by the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department.

Miura’s career began at seven years of age, appearing in NHK’s drama Agri. He then enrolled into the Tsukuba Actor’s Studio, while still acting. He later won the Newcomer of the Year award in 2007 for for his role as Hiro in the film Koizora.

Among his numerous film and TV appearances, Miura voiced Yama in Space Pirate Captain Harlock (2013), playing Eren Jaeger in the live-action Attack on Titan movie, Fujimaru Takagi in the live-action TV drama of the Bloody Monday manga, and Kamotaro Ito in the second live-action Gintama movie.

His most recent appearance was as the presenter of The World is Full of Desirable Things – Top Notch List. He was also set to appear in The Illusionist musical, and his second single Night Diver debuting on August 26th.

At this time of writing, Miura’s agency has not made any announcements regarding his death, or what would have been future projects.
