We’ve finally gotten some official confirmation as to the current and future status of Hideo Kojima, and the development team behind Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

Both Konami and Kojima have prepared a joint statement. “I want to reassure fans that I am 100% involved and will continue working on METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN; I’m determined to make it the greatest game I’ve directed to date. Don’t miss it!,” said Kojima.

As for Konami, they reaffirmed their looking to hire new talent for a new game in the series: “As the next step in the series, KONAMI has already resolved to develop new METAL GEAR.” Konami also pointed out that the company will be “conducting interviews for main staff to lead the development.”

So while Kojima’s statement is a bit nebulous, it certainly paints the picture that something is amiss behind the scenes. The fact that Konami has confirmed that new staff will lead the development of the new games essentially confirms the departure of Kojima, and possibly his staff. This, alongside the source by Gamespot, has led us to believe Kojima and crew really are leaving after the game ships.
