We’ve all known that Bloodborne is essentially what Demon’s Souls 2 could have been – alright well it’s not a definite spiritual successor, but the game is clearly Sony and From Software teaming up again in the hopes they can get lightning to strike twice.
However, a recent find by a fan playing the Bloodborne alpha (which is currently underway) has led us to believe that perhaps there is some sort of connection between the original and this new and bloodier game. Featured above, you can view the faith NPC from Demon’s Souls, a woman who would say Umbasa, which is her way of saying Amen, or Bless You. Dark Souls had Rhea of Thorolund, and Dark Souls 2 had Licia of Lindeldt, but later games never saw the same phrase repeated… until now.
The above screenshot comes from Twitch user Ryuujin882’s stream, in which he discovers a new boss that actually says the above. The full line, for clarity’s sake, is “Sick creature…. may you rest in peace…. Umbasa….”
Now, perhaps I’m grasping at straws here, but at the very least, this is a nice throwback reference to fans who played the original Demon’s Souls. If this develops into something even more grandiose, I’m sure the fans will go wild as they repeatedly die in their quest to 100% the game.
Bloodborne is coming to North America and Europe on February 6th and on February 5th in Japan.
