Sceencheat is an odd beast coming from the most recent years of first-person shooters. Being referred to as a second-person shooter, Screencheat hearkens back to the good old days of playing with all your friends on the same screen, and making good use of screen looking!
Yes, the game is set up specifically for players to cheat using the same tactic we all used years ago and would have screaming matches over. Not only does the game’s constant splitscreen already assist with it – even when you’re playing online – but the maps are even color coded by areas to help you cheat better. But here’s the real kicker: everyone is invisible. So, not only does the game help you “cheat”, but it’s the only way to win!
Unfortunately for you, weapons leave trails of fantastic colors when fired, so if you miss, there’s a good chance your target will have revenge. This just means you better cheat to the best of your ability.
Now, as for other aspects of the game, there are currently 10 guns to choose from, all of which are drastically different, and 10 stages on which you’ll be facing your friends.
The guns range from pretty classic, like a blunderbuss, to pretty zany, like a hobby horse that you can charge your enemies down with. In addition, there’s no real health system; instead, all weapons are one-hit kills, so if you manage to triangulate your enemy’s location correctly, they don’t get a chance to return fire. This makes your aim that much more important.
The stages themselves are delightfully twist-y and turn-y, designs for close-quarter twitch type shooting. They also are designed with the game’s style in mind, with small landmarks all over to assist in your screen looking.
There are 9 total gametypes for you to choose from, but extra tools will let you mutate the rules and craziness to your liking. Of course deathmatch and team deathmatch are standard, but there are some more unusual game types, such as one that is played similar to Clue (the board game). With all of the customization tools in the game, though, there are any number of crazy match styles you can play with your friends.
Screencheat will allow two to eight players online, and will allow a mix of local and online gameplay as well. And, as said before, even when you’re playing online, all of your friends’ screen will be at your fingertips, just as if you were all local.
So, when it releases on PS4, be sure to get some friends together and party! If your itching to get into the game now, it has been available on Steam since October of last year.
