The Intellivision Amico system has been delayed yet again, thanks to “international component supply and logistics challenges.”
Originally intended to launch Fall 2020, pre-ordered units will arrive at the end of 2021.
In their tweet, Intellivision state the console’s initial launch was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic, with the team “now facing new unprecedented international component supply and logistics challenges beyond our control.” This is no doubt in reference to the semiconductor shortage.
“In spite of these supply hurdles hampering our ability to fill all orders, we are focused and determined to deliver pre-ordered units by the end of the year. This will also allow us more time to optimize our operating system for future game development. We want to ensure that those who have anticipated the Amico for so long, get a chance to enjoy it as soon as possible. Of course, we will keep all of our customers and interested parties informed and updated on our continued progress.”
As a thank you to those who pre-ordered, a “very special thank you gift” will be sent to them via email next week.
As previously reported, the Intellivision Amico was originally revealed in 2018, and received over $5.5 million USD in crowdfunding through Fig. The system will launch for $249 USD, with two controllers with touch screens and motion controls. Through a free Android and iOS app, mobile devices can be used so up to eight players can play together.
Titles boasting being able to adapt the player’s skill level; and include Earthworm Jim 4, Sesame Workshop, Mattel Hot Wheels, Evel Knievel, and Astrosmash.
