Developer New World Interactive and publisher Focus Home Interactive have announced Insurgency: Sandstorm.
The sequel will release across PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One sometime in 2017. The original Insurgency was released on Steam back in 2014 to mostly positive reviews.
The key difference between the upcoming sequel and its predecessor is that it’s being constructed within Unreal Engine 4, instead of Valve’s Source Engine. It’ll also see a new story mode alongside its competitive and cooperative multiplayer modes.
While that’s all we really have to go off of for now, Focus Home Interactive creative producer Michael Douse is reassuring fans the game won’t get “dumbed down for consoles,” according to a response on Twitter:
“No it won’t,” said Douse. “That’s the point. The anti-CoD.”
