The teasing of fans’ dreams is here again folks, this time it’s Square Enix producer Yoshinori Kitase and an industry insider from NeoGAF. A few days ago, Kitase was interviewed by Eurogamer regarding the possibility of a remake for Final Fantasy VII, where he said that he would personally like to remake it, but it “would take a lot to happen.”
Like it or not, Final Fantasy VII has remained one of the most beloved role playing games of all time, and it (along with other older games in the franchise) has left Square Enix in a shadow, forever trying to make games that can equate to the greatness of their past. Despite their reluctance to remake the title, fans have remained vigilant.
Now we have some serious claims towards Square actually remaking the title internally. Industry insider Verendus has trusted sources in the Japanese gaming industry, and he eventually chimed in on the thread made for the Eurogamer article. His response was nebulous, but check it out:
“It’s happening. He’s obviously not going to give any indication as such though so it hardly matters until they’re ready to announce something. His comments make sense. It’s a huge project that will take a lot of effort, and demand a lot from him personally, in order to ensure the end result is something satisfactory.”
Now, I wouldn’t get your hopes up if you are a fan of the original, as it has been eight years since Square Enix revealed their latest ambitious project, Final Fantasy XV, or as it was known at its reveal, Final Fantasy Versus XIII.
In related news, Square Enix has filed for a trademark for a game associated to the words Shinra Company, if you played the original you would know they were the main source of energy in the game world, and one of the main villains in the story.
