Indie (XBLIG) Developers Wait for Payment: Microsoft Months Late

Xbox 360

Microsoft has apparently been late to pay profits due from Xbox Live Indie Games (XBLIG), according to some of the indie developers who have titles on the Xbox 360. Freelance Games say they are yet to receive payment, and Digital DNA Games have confirmed that payment has been late to them, also.

Microsoft allows itself a three-month leeway to transfer funds owed to XBLIG developers, but even considering this leeway, which ended on September 30, that means payment due to XBLIG developers on the Xbox Games Store is more than two months late.

Although Microsoft has not released an official statement, according to Freelance Games and Digital DNA Games, a Microsoft representative has privately addressed the issue.

This is not the first time that developers have complained about the treatment they receive on the Xbox platform. Payments have previously been late (but never by this much), and indie developers have long claimed they receive little support. In contrast, Sony has been lauded for its efforts to support smaller developers.

Niche Gamer has contacted independent Xbox 360 developers for further comment.
