Indie Statik Founder Offers Sex for Information, Gets Outed, Then Formally Apologizes -UPDATE-

UPDATE – In a later find, an uncensored version of the conversation has surfaced in which Josh Mattingly flat-out denies that he had been drinking and attributed the misspelling and such to “fat thumbs,” a comment which he also connected to a sexual remark. This directly contradicts his public apology in which he claimed he was drunk and not himself.

So this is quite a debacle between the founder and CEO of Indie Statik, Josh Mattingly, and a female game developer friend (who is still anonymous) of Laralyn McWilliams. This mutual friend between them is the one who Josh considered close enough to just offer sexual favors to.

In a drunken stupor, Mattingly offered the female game developer a “kiss on the vagina” if she revealed the information he was seeking. He proceeded to offer her his penis, saying that if she ever had the need for one in the future, that she could use his – for her vagina of course. You literally can’t make this stuff up.

You can find the entire conversation below, the censored version originally posted to twitter and the latter uncensored version that reveals the new information – be warned as the uncensored version is NSFW. First is the uncensored version, followed by the uncensored one:

There’s a few things to consider with this whole shit storm – for one, Josh later made a public apology in which he claims his younger brother’s suicide drove him to drink, and as such he hasn’t been himself. He claims he’s an advocate for women in games, and yet he admits that he became a total hypocrite for saying what he said to his friend on the inside of that studio.

What’s interesting is that McWilliams says that her friend, the one that Mattingly claims he is very close to, has “no personal relationship” with him, which could very easily be referring to the blatant sexual remarks he was making. I’m sure if there ever was a relationship between Mattingly and that developer, it’s totally gone now. Mattingly did confirm that he is taking therapy to deal with the loss of his brother, and that he is going to regular Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.

Indie Statik is a gaming website that primarily focuses on Western indie games – after the site grew to a sizeable audience they took to kickstarter to help jump start their website. They raked in a little over $50 thousand dollars, providing them with a platform to help make their website a reality. With a person like Mattingly at the helm, it really makes you wonder how they’re going to deal with this mess.

You can read Mattingly’s full apology here. What do you guys think – should Mattingly resign from his position as CEO?

Just Kotaku stirring up more non-videogame bullshit to further their SJW agenda.

No one cares outside the little feminist circlejerk that tumblr seems to breed

While I agree that it is getting blown a little out of control, I think it was wrong for him to have pursued her in that way for a scoop, and it was also wrong for her to have allowed the conversation to be published publicly.

In the same light though, allowing it to become public would only bring more attention to the various problems women have to deal with both in the gaming industry and games journalism, such as this one.

I think the whole thing is ridiculous though, the biggest let down is the people who are not letting others discuss it civilly, namely the various twitter goers who are exploding on anyone trying to dissect the entire ordeal.

I see nothing in those messages that would suggest that the female in question was offended. Annoyed? possibly. The idea of ‘harassment’, especially verbal, is highly subjective. I knew females who were more perverted than I am. There is no absolute, and feminists act like there is.

And those “problems” that feminists claim that is everywhere in the IT/Gaming industry is seldom, and frankly was created by themselves. Dismissing video game culture for decades….calling everyone who enjoyed it manchildren. Now they see some big bucks in such a industry, and want a piece of the pie? Sorry, but you don’t just change an entrenched culture overnight, and quite frankly, females don’t deserve special accommodations for their feelings.

There are already plenty of females working within the industry who are perfectly fine with the current culture. There is no reason to change for a vocal minority.

Personally, I find it funny. What he said is what a kid would say to a girl he liked after reading one to many playboys. Typical thing I’d have said when I was 14 to girls I liked.

She didn’t seem angry, maybe amused, but her feminist friends seem to be morphing this into something grander.

It’s rape and we should not joke about rape. Also, this horrible rape has scarred her and we should weep.

Did I do it right? Ok.

Still, I find this all profoundly hilarious.

Also, Kurbstar sounds like me when I used to debate this stuff elsewhere. Love that post.
