StickyLock Studios and developer Alterego Games have announced psychological horror Sanity of Morris.
As stated in the press release (via Games Press), the game focuses on Johnathan Morris, after he received a disturbing voice mail from his deranged father. Returning to his childhood home in Greenlake, finds his father is missing, and notes of government conspiracy and aliens.
Now, Morris must divide fact from fiction with only a flashlight and a notebook, all while terrible forces are trying to stop him. The light can help find clues, but also give your position away to whatever is hunting you. The darkness keeps you hidden, but may also drive you insane.
The press kit also explains how the game is designed for those who may have less time to game.
“Reading from their website Alterego Games aims to deliver ‘experiences to the busy gamer that wants to wind down for the evening or weekend.’ And we get what they mean. As a mom, dad, student or (one day) boss, you’re happy to see your goold [sic] old pc or console what? Maybe once a week, and then it’s staring at the long list of games you bought but haven’t played yet.
For those with less time on their hands, games simply need to be shorter, games need to be more compact. And that’s where Alterego Games hopes to hit home with Sanity of Morris. The game has an intriguing story, some minor puzzles and quick time events, but mostly rides on atmospheric storytelling with some great voiceacting and interesting twists.”

“This doesn’t make sense. The lights are out. Why would my father invite me to Greenlake after all these years and then not be home?
Start thinking John. Keep your cool. Build a case, write it down. You can do this.”
Sanity of Morris is a psychological horror adventure game where you want to discover clues, but can’t risk exposure to the light or you risk getting caught.
The game combines elements from the detective genre with psychological horror to tell the story of a young man trying to stay sane in the search for his deranged father, consumed by conspiracy theories about the government and alien signals.
After years of next to no contact, Johnathan Morris receives a disturbing voicemail and decides to return to the house he has never called a home, to check up on the mental state of his father. But in remote Greenlake, nothing is as he expected it to be.
There are forces at work that don’t want him here and they are armed.
Equipped with nothing more than a flashlight and a notebook, it is up to you to step into the shoes of young Johnathan and discern truth from fiction.
Light reveals the clues you need to find your father, but also alerts the ones who are trying to hunt you down. Darkness keeps you hidden, but linger for too long, and you might go insane.
Danger lies where you least expect it. What don’t they want you to find?
Sanity of Morris launches in the second half of 2020 for Windows PC (via Steam), PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
