Shahid Ahmad, the director of strategist content at Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, is leaving PlayStation after his 10 tenure at the company.

His actual departure is on December 1st, the tenth anniversary of his start at the company, and his motivation is the desire to return to developing videos.

“I want to make games again,” Ahmad said in a blog post. “I stopped being a developer around a quarter of a century ago and have seen so many changes since then, with most of the exciting ones happening in the last few years. I want to be part of that.”

Ahmad is the man responsible for encouraging and/or signing on lots of independent developers to various PlayStation platforms, including the likes of No Man’s Sky, HellbladeVolume, Nuclear Throne, Hotline Miami, and many others.

For those wondering what this could mean for the publisher’s aggressive embrace of indie games, Ahmad said things will not change after his leave.

“Strategic Content will continue,” Ahmad said. “There are no plans to change anything. Our approach to developers will also be unchanged. We have many talented people across the board who work tirelessly to support developers in bringing their videogames to PlayStation.”

Ahmad originally started his career as a coder back in 1982, and self-published his first game in the same year. He later went on to design Chimera and Pandora, with the former being remastered by Ahmad in 2012.
