Ikaruga is a classic and much sought after vertical shoot-em-up from developer Teasure, sometimes copies of the game can cost exorbitant amounts of money. Thankfully, Treasure has since been developing a PC port of the game, and it will arrive soon via the Steam platform.
The game is coming on February 18th in North America and February 19th in Japan, Treasure announced on twitter earlier today. The game is exclusive to PC, but it also supports some cool stuff like Xbox 360 controllers, and various other Steam incorporated features. Ikaruga originally launched in Japanese arcades in 2001, followed by a Dreamcast release later the same year. Unfortunately, the game only made it to the GameCube in the Americas in 2003, but eventually saw an HD port on Xbox Live Arcade in 2010.
The port on Steam is the first time the game will be available on PC, although it comes with a host of features on the Steam platform, most notably local co-op, which also comes with Double Play mode, a mode that allows two people to play on one controller. You’ll also have access to Steam achievements, leaderboards, trading cards, and Steam Cloud support as well. Ikaruga on Steam also has options for Japanese text and subtitles, although the entire game’s audio is in English by default.
