If You Want a Truly Open World Shenmue III, the Kickstarter Must Reach $10 Million

The world was overjoyed and overcome with emotions when visionary creator Yu Suzuki announced a Kickstarter for Shenmue III last week, during E3 2015.

However, many worried the budget to create the game (which had a goal of $2 million) was paltry in comparison to the original game’s $47 million dollar (roughly $67 million in today’s standards) budget.

With the Kickstarter being funded in roughly 9 hours, Suzuki and crew have taken to various avenues to help raise more funding for the game. In a Reddit AMA, Suzuki revealed that at the $5 million goal, he’ll be able to add something he really wants to do in-game.

However, the $10 million goal is very interesting:

I will say this: if we reach the $5 mil mark, one of the things I really want to do with Shenmue 3 will become a reality.

At $10 million, it will truly have the features of an open world.

So there you have it. Seeing this being said in this way certainly raises some concerns, like just how linear is Shenmue III in its current budget/plan?

The Shenmue III Kickstarter (which you can find here) is sitting at roughly $3.5 million right now – so it has a while to go until it comes near $10 million.
