Heart Machine has confirmed the unfortunate news: their awesome pixelated action adventure game, Hyper Light Drifter, is being delayed. The kickstarter funded game was set for a release sometime this summer, but that date has since been pushed to sometime this holiday season.

The update also had this to say regarding the delay:

“After heavy development, much discussion and examination, the team and I have decided that we will not rush the project. There’s an intense desire to create a polished, beautiful experience and we need more time to do so.”

This update also adds a digital world map and customizable in game companions to the $75 backer tier. A closed beta for the game is expected around June of this year. The new winter release is for the PC and Steam releases only, with the other platforms to follow “shortly thereafter.”

Hyper Light Drifter successfully completed its kickstarter campaign, raking in $645,000 dollars, a huge surplus over its $27,000 funding goal. The game’s already excellent sounding score is being done by Rich Vreeland, who is also known as Disasterpeace – he’s famous for the music he did in Fez.

Eventually, Hyper Light Drifter will be coming to Playstation 4, Playstation Vita, Wii U, Mac and Ouya, after its PC and Steam release.
