Square Enix has confirmed details on how to upgrade your Final Fantasy XIV PS3 copy to a PS4 copy, following the early access launch of the game on Sony’s latest console.
Right now, you can download the client and play for free ahead of it’s April 14th release, but there’s a new caveat that you should consider if you own the PlayStation 3 version of the game – Square Enix is letting you upgrade that version for free. Starting now, you can upgrade your Final Fantasy XIV PS3 copy to a PS4 copy, at no extra cost.
However, bear in mind that if you do go with the PlayStation 4 version, post launch you’ll be locked into that version permanently. The nice thing is that if you do choose to upgrade, all of your user data will be transferred as well, meaning you can just upgrade to the superior platform and enjoy the prettier scenery.
Lastly, this service is available all the way through December 31st of this year, meaning either Square Enix is super proud of their PS4 build, or they’re just trying to get as many players as they can to adopt that platform.
Final Fantasy XIV is now available for Windows PC, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4.
