Housemarque Warn Against Auto Update Returnal Patch to Prevent Losing Current Run

Housemarque have announced the launch of a new patch for Returnal, but warned users to disable auto updates to lose their current run.

As modern consoles utilize auto updates for games; downloading without prompting from the player or while the game is in a low-power mode, there are situations where an update that causes a problem or censorship is downloaded.

Housemarque warned players on Twitter to disable the PlayStation 5 auto update to prevent users from losing their current run in roguelike Returnal. As such, players could finish their current run before downloading the update, or abandon it.

This is not the first time the game’s roguelike nature has caused issues. Housemarque recently acknowledged the lack of save options for Returnal; after a fan proposal for implementing the system without compromising the rougelike elements went viral on Reddit.  “We hear the community and we love you all,” Housemarque stated. “Nothing to announce now, but keep playing and enjoying the challenge as you can!”

As previously reported, astronaut Selene crash lands on a hostile planet, and is stuck in a loop of reviving after death. Players are not the only ones who will adapt, as the planet seems to change with every loop, and Selene’s mind slips more into insanity.

You can find the full rundown (via PlayStation) below.
