Horizon: Zero Dawn’s New Trailer Shows Us Its Pre-Apocalypse World

Guerrilla Games’ upcoming open-world ARPG (and Witcher 3 homage) Horizon: Zero Dawn made an appearance at this years Tokyo Game Show, revealing a trailer that gave viewers a glimpse at Aloy’s world before it became the robot-infested jungle it is now.

Though the trailer is in Japanese, it should still whet the appetite of gamers who remain aboard the its hype train. Showing the lights of the pre-apocalypse cityscape quickly blink out and the abandoned roads being overtaken by vegetation, the video then shoots ahead to Alloy’s current reality; the primitive world she is forced to survive in.

Horizon: Zero Dawn is not only Guerrilla Games’ first attempt at an RPG, but their first new IP since creating Killzone 12 years ago. Due for release in the US on February 28th 2017 (Early March for those on the other side of the Atlantic), the game will be fully compatible with the recently announced Playstation 4 Pro, giving it 4K support and perhaps explaining why the game’s development was delayed.

Carl is both a JRPG fan and a CRPG'er who especially loves European PC games. Even with more than three decades of gaming under his belt, he feels the best of the hobby is yet to come.

forced to survive seems odd as the character seems to be a one woman rambo in a danger filled environment that should be terrified of her :p

Yeah, I don’t know how they can contrive survival into this game without it being annoying though since it has that typical “Open World hero saves the day” vibe.

Lost Planet 1 had your health deplete out in the wild meaning you had to be efficient and smart even with a more typical action game set up. Dead Rising 1 put the risk on saving civilians and a new game plus loop to get more out of it.

We don’t really have games like that in large numbers now. Survival is either picking up stuff & crafting and/or a theme mostly shown off in the cutscenes, fortunately that doesn’t make all of those games

Shh, it wouldn’t be “progressive” if we didn’t have to pretend a female perpretator of mass killings/robocide is actually a vulnerable little thing.

I’ll give it a shot if it’s ported to PC, but otherwise…nah.

Game looks like it could be decent, but I’m not interested enough to stomach the 30 fps.

This game looks even better without Ashly Burch’s voiceover. If the option is there I may actually play it in another language.

Yeah, FPS are right out. It’s a testament to the brilliance of Witcher 3 that I was able to play it just as well with a gamepad as KBM, but the lynchpin here is that I’m not going to buy a PS4 to play Horizon.

As soon as they showed the new Zelda game right after this game, all interest in this game evaporated for me. Zelda looks like the same kind of game, just fun. This game just looks tedious.

funny how it’s verified that reality is the opposite of what’s implied there, which is really a very odd modern western idea

It would be better without it period during gameplay judging by the demos of it but having that voiceover be by Burch makes it aural hell so if the final game is actually worth a damn it better have either toned that shit or have multiple voice language options.

Is it possible to make a woman even more unappealing than this?

I’m pretty sure I heard a Madao in there somewhere.

Anyway this game better be included with a Japanese dub in all versions. I don’t hate Ashley Burch (don’t know a single thing about her), but as a voice actor she kinda sucks. The only time I’ve seen her do well was with Rei from Persona Q.

Not every woman needs to be thought of sexually you know. I’m not saying that as a feminist, but as a man who’s encouraging you to rise above your base instincts and stop letting every woman you see have potential control over your brain by controlling what’s between your legs. Women are just people you know, with marginally different anatomy.

Given this is a post-apocalyptic future it would also make a lot more sense if she was speaking some unintelligible derivative of the latin language rather than perfect American 2016 english.

Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture was part owned by Sony but still made it to PC. Probably because it flopped sales wise, mainly.

Going against millions of years of evolution is quite unhealthy.
Plus, that’s not a woman. That’s a bunch of pixels stuck to a ragdoll(not really but you get the point).Nothing wrong with having attractive people in fiction.

If guerilla games is doing this I’m slightly more hopeful that it’ll be good, but that also means this will never be ported to anything.

You forgetting the most important thing per say in the regression left book, 1001 SJWs code book art tho be diverse with diversity. art tho NOT show any skin unless stated by us. Etc etc.

So forgetting fat women etc etc are just people you know should they be in games.

The question is why the hell devs want to minic the real world and stop treating fictional characters as real people.

In short video games are not like movies or are you saying because of its interactive you and them got a problem with that. We must not let games get rewarded with cheap thrills going point A to B, and yes i did say cheap if i want to get arouse i watch real porn and not some cartoony draw woman or lolis, so all this censorship is rather not needed.

One other thing joe for any regression left out there that concern about depiction of women in games, that the crack of the matter. but they forgot real life issues of Real women in this real world but get so work up about women fictional characters.

Depends how far into the future we’re talking about. If it was the Apocalypse of our society then English is indeed the language most likely to survive. Either that or Chinese.

Yup, they also brought over Helldivers (thankfully). That said, those were made by indie devs which had a strong existing fanbase on PC, and most likely pushed for a port when negotiating contracts. Anything that’s made by a 1st party studio like Guerrilla or Naughty Dog seemingly has zero chance of a port.

According to the game, humanity is teetering on the edge of extinction (Isn’t it always in these games though?) and they survive only by scavenging from the robots that dominate the plains, so yeah, the phrase is correct.
