Indie Polish developer Sonka has revealed a new gameplay trailer for Holstin, their throwback psychological horror game inspired by Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and the TV series Twin Peaks.
Originally revealed back in 2022, Holstin is in development for Windows PC (via Steam), Xbox, Switch, and PlayStation consoles. A crowdfunding campaign via Kickstarter is planned to help fund the last bits of the game.
Here’s a rundown on the game, plus the gameplay trailer:
It’s late November 1992, and Poland is still in the early stages of its transformation following the fall of the Soviet Union. In the small, isolated town of Jeziorne-Kolonia, nestled in the eastern part of the country, a terrible calamity has struck, slowly consuming everyone and everything it touches. This is also the last known location of your close friend Bartek, before he stopped answering your calls. The mystery of his disappearance now compels you to follow in his footsteps, to uncover what brought him to this town in the first place.
Holstin is a survival horror set in 90s Poland focused on investigation, combat and mystery …and there’s all this strange ooze everywhere.
Holstin uses Sonka’s custom 2XD Rendering technology, enabling the team to create real-time lighting in detailed pixel art environments, as well as multiple camera modes in a way that has never been seen before. The game features various perspectives, including isometric 3D, over-the-shoulder third-person shooting, first-person driving, top-down exploration, and side-scrolling platforming
