Hironobu Sakaguchi to Reveal New Game in 2017

Final Fantasy creator and Mistwalker Corporation boss Hironobu Sakaguchi is teasing a new game.

The news comes from his end of 2016 interview with 4Gamer, in which the creator said that he plans to announce a new game in 2017.

He asked fans to “please stay tuned.” That’s all we have to go off for now.

Could this be the new console game Mistwalker is working on? Perhaps it’s the collaborative game they’re developing with Silicon Studios? Maybe it’s the first project from their new development studio in Tokyo? Finally, it could be something entirely new altogether. Only time will tell – we’ll keep you guys posted.

Hope it’ll be good. I personally haven’t played The Last Story, but I’ve heard mixed opinions on it.

Is it going to be another game with a synonym of Final in the title?

I personally really love it, but I would say it deserves it’s polarizing reputation. It’s a very strange game, design wise. But if you’re willing to overlook that, it has lots of really cool moments.

Personally I would say go for it if you’re a big classic FF fan. It’s very reminiscent of the tone of earlier games, particularly V. It feels more like a real FF game to me than most of the modern games, in all honesty.

It has been a while, really curious what Sakaguchi is working on and please don’t tease us just to announce afterwards that it’s mobile shit.

    I liked the Last Story.

Please don’t let this new one be a mobile game.

    Very much this.
I remember playing it when it came out and thinking “well, I guess this is the real Final Fantasy 13”. It honestly felt a lot more like a real FF game than anything Squeenix has done recently, even with its unusual combat system.

Plus the story was really good, and like Xenoblade it benefited from a very talented British voice cast who made the fantasy world more believable.

I’d be overjoyed if the mystery project turns out to be a Last Story 2, but somehow I doubt it.

It’s a pretty polarizing game depending on how much of a JRPG you expect it to be. It had a pretty meh story with simple characters and only one Town to explore but holy shit is the gameplay fun and full of interesting mechanics.

For me it’s the best real-time combat in a JPRG i’ve played, i’m surprised nobody has took it’s formula and improved it. Hopefully this new game does just that.

That art looks very similar to official Drakengard art.

Honestly, with Nier 2 actually being a thing, I would not be surprised at a new DOD.

Can you please explain to me why Drakengard is referred to with the acronym DOD?

It’s called Drag-On Dragoon in Japan. DOD is just an easier shorthand.

I am always looking forward to somethin new from Sakaguchi. I have my fingers crossed for a new console project. This reminds me that I still have to get to The Last Story after all of this time. I have the collector’s edition, but I stll have not gotten to it.
    One day…

I found Last Story to be fun but flawed, especially in terms of story. It had a lot of good ideas and themes, but the execution was iffy.

Well this is they were supposed to have started a console version of Terra battle according to their download starter quite awhile ago. I’m guessing it’s that unless they’re making something completely new.

Yeah, the story was weaker and more focused, but I forgave it as in interviews he stated they were trying to go for a more comfortable casual game. The designs in the game were pretty great though and I really liked that you could physically see the upgrades on your armor as you upgraded the gear you liked.
