Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro are Still Working on “Something Together”

silent hills 07-24-15-1

The cancellation of Silent Hills is not going to stop a collaboration between visionary creators Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro (Editor’s Note: Both of which had a hand in the development of Silent Hills) from working together, if a report by IGN is anything to go by.

“I love working with Kojima-san,” del Toro told IGN. “We are still in touch. We are still friends and working into doing something together, but that’s not going to be [Silent Hills].”

In closing, del Toro talked up the cancellation of the game.

“We were in the planning stages, and it’s a shame it’s not going to happen,” del Toro said. “We were talking about really pushing the boundaries of the new consoles, and making the game really mess with your head. One of the great moments in Metal Gear [Solid] was Psycho Mantis. The idea that a game can actually interact with you, and stuff like that.”

We’ll keep you guys posted.

I can’t wait for their survival horror game, NotSilent Hill.

I’m glad they are still at it, though. I think Guillermo Del Toro is a director that greatly respects the medium and, being a gamer himself, will know better than to try and and treat this like an interactive movie.

The whole Silent Hill concept is vague enough that you could basically make a Silent Hill game, call it ‘Not Silent Hill’ and get away with it anyways.

To be honest, I don’t think anyone but the original team could do a new game justice, everyone else just ends up retreading over old ground in an attempt to make their game feel like a part of the series. Silent Hill’s setting feels kind of tired. As much as I like the Silent Hill franchise I would rather see something original from these guys.

If Dennis Dyack and Peter Molyneux could, I’m sure Kojima can.

OH SHIT! I hope they are still planning on making a horror game. I wouldn’t be surprised if they start up a kick starter for whatever it is.

Well silent hills didn’t seem too much like the usual silent hill franchise.

I’m fairly certain the whole “dad used to do the same thing everyday then he killed us in the most boring way but now I’m coming back with some new tricks” (can’t remember EXACT quotes) voiceover at the end of the PT demo was specifically saying that Silent Hill had been killed off as a franchise with shitty sequels and was going to be completely reinvented and actually be scary again.

So here’s hoping that Kojima & Del Toro can do something in the same vein as what they were planning with Silent Hills

the sad thing is that a lot of the original Team Silent had signed on to work with Kojima and Del Toro, before Silent Hills was cancelled.
