PlatinumGames have announced that founder and director Hideki Kamiya will be leaving the company on October 12, 2023.
Kamiya also confirmed this departure on Twitter saying this decision was reached after “a lot of consideration” by himself. He also stated that he would continued to create in his own way, implying that he will remain in the gaming industry.
As stated above, Kamiya was one of the founders for PlatinumGames way back in 2006. He would be one of the major contributing factors in the creation of beloved titles such as Bayonetta and The Wonderful 101.
Before PlatinumGames, Kamiya had worked at Capcom and notable titles such as Resident Evil and Devil May Cry.
He would depart from the company after his development studio known as Clover Studio, which created games such as Viewtiful Joe and Okami, was shut down in 2006.
The most recent game he had worked on was Bayonetta 3, which sparked controversy from former voice actress Hellena Taylor who claimed their pay offer was an “insult” to her. This would lead to a social media storm for Kamiya and PlatinumGames.
