Fans of Okami and Bayonetta will probably be happy to hear that Hideki Kamiya has expressed interest in making sequels for both titles.
In an interview with Metro, Kamiya told the press that he would love to make a third Bayonetta, expressing that he has ideas for both it and Okami 2.
While Bayonetta 3 sounds like wishful thinking on his part, Okami 2 might be more tangible as he’s been in talks with Capcom’s Jun Takeuchi on a subject he didn’t want to divulge on, but hinted at it by pointing at his t-shirt which portrayed a wolf.
Right now Hideki Kamiya has his hands full with Scalebound, which is set to release for the Xbox One sometime in 2017.

June 17, 2016 at 1:38 pmIf it’s for the NX he can keep them. Still don’t understand what made Platinum decide that a Wii U exclusive was a good idea.
deadeye
June 17, 2016 at 1:42 pmNintendo being the only developer willing to publish it probably had something to do with.
It’s the same thing with Scalebound.
Small developers don’t really get to decide what platforms they develop for, or even what games they get to develop period.

June 17, 2016 at 1:44 pmMight have had something to do with Nintendo being willing to make the game happen while Sony and Microsoft were not.
Mr0303
June 17, 2016 at 1:45 pmI actually think the opposite may be true – Bayonetta 3 is more likely to happen and Nintendo might fund it because they’ll need the 3rd party support for the NX, while Capcom may still have some bad blood towards Kamiya.

June 17, 2016 at 1:52 pmYou should go ask Microsoft and Sony. They’re the ones who said no

June 17, 2016 at 2:08 pmDesperately hope these make their way to PC if either happen. You’d think with Capcom practically derailing the remaster train, we’d have gotten ports of their PS2 classics ages ago.

June 17, 2016 at 2:08 pmDo Capcom have bad blood with Kamiya? They closed Clover because their games didn’t sell well enough, so he left. Nothing like the shit between Kojima and Konami, for example.
And Kamiya definitely doesn’t hate Capcom, he even blocks people who talk shit about them on Twitter: https://twitter.com/pg_kamiya/status/679499575401435136
Then again, he blocks anyone on Twitter for anything lol

June 17, 2016 at 3:29 pmokami could be considered a cult hit at this point, it has a very well respected reputation and a ton of good word of mouth reputation and fan love
if capcom played it right they’d have them polish up the graphics just a bit, re-release it on PC and PS4, and then fund an Okami 2 and market the entire project as a sort of “because the fans have been asking so much for it” kind of thing
it’d give them great bonus rep with people, which they sort of need
if they first “leaked” the rumor and managed to build up some pre hype for it, even better
Carl619
June 17, 2016 at 3:29 pmthe first game got 2 million. But the second one was sold in a console with less players, where many fans of the genre wouldn’t buy for just 1 game. If 2 was multi they could get 3 million easily.
If the 3 one is multi they can get 3 or more. In fact you can see that sales are increasing with each iteration.
SinkingSage

June 18, 2016 at 5:43 amIf I recall correctly that was part of the original plan for Bayonetta 2 and it was actually already partially developed before they had to stop production because of cost. Nintendo then approached them and agreed to front the money to finish development, something they needed since it’s pretty difficult for a company that was 50/50 hit or miss on whether their games were successful from a marketing standpoint. Bayonetta 2 was a Triple AAA budget title, not a run of the mill indie game that can usually self-publish on a platform like Steam since they can keep relatively low development costs a majority of the time. The game was eating money, and halfway through the company stopped before it could eat what they felt would be too much.
At this point though, I wouldn’t necessarily call them Publisher slaves. Those typically denote companies that are forever trapped under the auspices of a single corporation. Platinum has Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo, Activision, and Konami (once) all basically contracting games out from them while they remain largely independent of an overbearing publisher.
These companies (mainly Activision) contracting them are the ones bearing the cost of any poor sales (since most of them are bran-name cash grabs) and Platinum is able to sustain longer so that they can make more big budget breakout success titles or get contracted for a much bigger and involved project, something we see with ScaleBound and Nier: Automata, both titles being something the company was very interested in making before being contracted to do so.
They’ve situated themselves to a point where their talent in making action games sells itself and they are basically able to avoid actually having financial risk and are still affording themselves opportunities to make what they want without worrying about streamlining their games just to make them sell well enough just so they can survive another year.
Pretty much no one with a head on their shoulders thinks Platinum are bad game developers because Bayonetta 2 didn’t sell well. Most everybody blames it on Nintendo and their struggling console. Bayonetta 2 is regarded as a masterpiece in its genre burdened by a console that caters to a different type of market.
Corporations should be realizing that given the time and budget, Platinum is capable of making a fantastic game that has a fanbase clamoring for it (Activision never will), and they’ll want to bank off of that.
Feniks
June 18, 2016 at 6:11 amYes Nintendo really needed some games on the wiiU and so they were willing to throw money at Platinum. Same happened with Gaiden back on the xbox.

June 18, 2016 at 1:08 pmMaybe if the Scalebound deal turns out real well, Microsoft would want to work more with Platinum. The Nintendo that greenlite and encouraged the sexy nature of Bayo 2 seems like a distant memory, even though it wasn’t really that long ago (even though it’s just Nintendo of America that seems to be the core problem). Activision seems content with giving them small budgets for licensed titles so nothing as big as Bayonetta seems in the cards with them. Though Sony could surprise us all, if they’re riding high enough on PS4 sales to back a sequel. Because we know all of Sega’s money is going to be going to Sonic and 40K… oh shoot, that’s a crossover idea…

June 18, 2016 at 6:27 pmBut then that wouldn’t be Okami, the charm of the story was that you played as Amaterasu as a wolf (Okami is wolf in japanese so that’s where the name comes from). and Okamiden for me was crap because the story was a little half assed and the DS couldn’t hold up to the art and gameplay of the original Okami. In the end Okami is one of those games you wish it had a direct sequel but deep down you know it’s never gonna be as good as the 1st one. Just let Okami rest. and like you said it would be cool if they did a game about the other celestials or other japanese stories with the same art, but turn that into a new game of the same universe not into Okami 2
