Bored already? Struggling to find something fun to play in 2025? Or perhaps you’re counting down the days until your most anticipated game finally drops, but need something engaging to fill the gap? Besides the vast amount of most recent titles, there are plenty of hidden gem games that are worthy of your attention and could entertain you for long hours or even days. We’ve rounded up a selection of standout titles, perfect for both solo adventures and lively sessions with friends. Looking for something fresh beyond the AAA hype? These hidden gems deliver unforgettable gameplay without the massive marketing budget.

5. Gothic series

I can recommend this one with all my heart. The Gothic series is a nostalgic trip to the past when RPG games we know today were making their baby steps. With its immersive story, which will get you carried away into its grim and magical world, you will write your story starting from scratch and build your reputation in the unforgiving reality where everything might kill you. The combat, though old-fashioned and sometimes clumsy, is truly unique, like no game you’ve played so far, and once you work it out, you will have a blast. The visuals are not that bad for a game from 2001, but they do have their charm, and despite being far from today’s standards, should not bother you while gaming. The music is a true masterpiece and gives each place its unique character. The game also supports replayability as there are multiple paths and ways in which you can finish some quests. Players describe it as “Best fantasy RPG of all time!” or “What a great way to start the 21st century” (Steam reviews), and I think they are absolutely right.

4. Heroes of Might and Magic III

“It was excellent when it was released 25 years ago, and it is excellent today. The gameplay, balance, game mechanics, music, and even the graphics are still world-class.” (GoG review) Heroes of Might and Magic is a series of turn-based strategy games that found a special place in the hearts of thousands of players. Especially the third part is fan-beloved, and it stands out in the history of gaming. Visuals, despite being simple, are unique and gorgeous. The gameplay is varied as it makes you consider many layers of planning your units, from developing your castle with proper buildings, through gathering a powerful army, to levelling your heroes to command your forces and fight your foes. There are many factions to test out, and thanks to the Random Map Generator, each playthrough will be different. A must-try for everybody who hasn’t tried this yet.

3. Rounds

“It’s like Smash Brothers, except with more guns and nothing like Smash Brothers.” (Steam review)

A game to test the power of your friendship… or simply have fun. All you need is a friend to play with. Rounds, which was developed by indie devs, offers rather simple yet pleasant graphics, making this game a great entertainment for some free evenings. Fights get more intense with the upgrades player get every round, which they can choose to outperform and outsmart their opponent. Over 70 maps and 65 unique powerups make you enter the gameplay loop of one more round syndrome. Definitely a fun game with lots to offer and at a really affordable price. If you enjoyed Stick Fight: The Game or Smash Bros, you might also like this one.

2. Stronghold Crusader

For those seeking some RTS revival and dreaming about nostalgic gameplay, Stronghold Crusader is one way to go! This game is referred to as “Golden oldie that works like a charm. Simple, easy-to-understand systems, but never boring.” or “One of my favourite games. This game truly does not age.” (Steam reviews) by players and is a great proof of old games being timeless. The classic RTS gameplay combined with medieval reality, with historic battles to fight, dozens of scenarios to play with the company of the fan-favourite adviser, and a memorable voice-over. Visuals, again, are simple, yet give this nostalgic vibe and make you feel like back in the early 2000s. The music supplements the gameplay and lets you immerse yourself in this medieval world even more.

1. My Little Universe

Said to be one of the best indie games, which are often underrated. My Little Universe may be an ideal choice for a casual gaming session, especially if you love playing and grinding with friends. Some people say that “The game is fun and relaxing, very simple, and easy to play,” or “Got it in a bundle, can’t put it down.” You can spend many hours exploring its worlds, and it allows you to do that with a friend or a family member. This is a perfect choice if you want to switch your brain off and fight another monster. Colourful and smooth visuals give this game a very chill vibe, and you might spend hours in there without realising. Undoubtedly a noteworthy option to consider.
