We’ve finally gotten a concrete look at the newest game in the Toukiden series via an update on Famitsu‘s website.

Toukiden Kyoku, or as it is translated into English, Toukiden Extreme, is a totally upgraded version of the original game, as we stated in our original report. The new version includes a lot more story content, new weapons and armor, new demons, and a whole bevy of other bonuses.

The new story pieces are considered a true sequel, and they’re set roughly three months after the events of the original game. After the disaster known as the “Awakening” struck the Utakata village, the denizens of the village finally started to recover in peace. Unfortunately, this didn’t last long, as a new demon appeared in the north and a new struggle for survival began.

A heavily armed and skillful team of warriors known as the Hyakukitai were sent out from the village to fight the demon, and in the meantime the neighboring village of Shiranui managed to hold onto its freedom. After all of these events to take place, the very survival of the village is at stake.

Toukiden Kyoku is set for a release sometime this year on Japan across PlayStation Vita and PlayStation Portable.
