It was certainly wonderful news to hear that Yuji Naka’s Rodea the Sky Soldier had resurfaced, and was being redone on Wii U (and 3DS).

While the game isn’t coming to both platforms until the spring of next year, for now we have some debut screenshots for the Wii U version of the game, via a new preview by Famitsu:

The short preview also recapped some of the tidbits regarding the game’s story. You start off on the continent of Garuda where the amnesiac Rodea, the Majin machine soldier of legend, awakens after a 1000 year rest by the curiosity of a girl named Ion.

The only thing that Rodea can remember is fighting a deadly battle in his past with a girl that looked strikingly similar to Ion. Despite this, he joins up with Ion to fight against the evil mechanized army of the Naga empire, a war-hungry nation that seeks to conquer Garuda to harness its gravity energy.

Rodea the Sky Soldier is coming to 3DS and Wii U in the spring of next year. If you manage to snag yourself a first-run copy of the game, you’ll get the original and unpublished Wii version of Tenkuu no Kishi Rodea.
