Katamari series and Noby Noby Boy creator Keita Takahashi revealed his new Playstation 4 game, Wattam, last year. At the time, we didn’t really know anything about it – save that it would be equally insane and creative, as per Takahashi’s pedigree.

Now, we’ve finally gotten a look at the game, alongside some initial details for what fans can expect in terms of gameplay. The new screenshots and details come from an independent games event held yesterday, in Los Angeles. Local press were able to get their hands on the game, and we’ve compiled the relevant information.

We’ve learned that Wattam has been in development for two years. Players begin their journey with simple objects you could probably imagine seeing in Takahashi’s previous games – like a tree, a cloud, a mayor, and more. When you interact with each of the objects, they’re given names and they come to life.

You can link each of the objects via their hands, and once ten objects are linked together, the mayor can set a bomb off on his head, and explode them in the sky like fireworks. All of the objects came falling back down, and a new object came into play – which turned out to be drawn towards the happiness of the silly explosion.

The only explanation behind the entire concept for the game came from Takahashi, who told VentureBeat that he personally felt like individual people are completely disconnected from each other, and to remedy this – they need to come together, hold each others hand, and play.

Robin Hunicke, co-founder of Funomena with Takahashi, added “it’s about how the world is made better when people are friends.” We’re hoping to learn more at E3 – and maybe to get our hands on the game? We’ll keep you guys posted. Wattam is set for a release some time next year.
