Sony and From Software have given us the first look at Bloodborne, their bold new game that is helmed by Demon’s Souls and Dark Souls creator Hidetaka Miyazaki.
First up, we’ve got the official box art for the game:
Next, we’ve got the first official details for the game, via this week’s Famitsu magazine.
The game’s story is focused on a sickness that mutates people into beasts, which creates the need for beast hunters. The protagonist is visiting the old capital in the game, which is clearly inspired by the 19th century Victorian era – and he’s becoming “sick.”
The development of Bloodborne began right after From Software finished Artoria of the Abyss for the original Dark Souls, when Sony Computer Entertainment Japan approached the developer to enter a partnership to make a new game for the Playstation 4.
The world within Bloodborne and the story are completely new – so don’t expect any ties to the Souls games. The atmosphere within the game is utilizing the full power of the Playstation 4. There won’t be a map in game, and players will be able to customize their character.
The keywords for Bloodborne are “Beast” and “Blood.” While in battle, players will use both guns and melee weapons. Combat is described as not just being action packed, but also strategical and full of tactics. The combat is described as “the feeling of fighting to death.” Yum.
The game will have an online component, although details are scant on this. The theme is described as “joint exploration,” which leads us to believe co-op is fully integrated into the game.
From Software and Sony are aiming to have the game running at a 1080p resolution and at 30 frames per second.

The game sounds like Vampire Hunter D: The Game to me. What do you guys think?
