Saber Interactive has announced Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival, a new horror game for PC and consoles.
Saber Interactive is known for their work on remasters, but in recent months they’ve announced multiple horror titles which tie in to popular movie franchises. Jurassic Park Survival, John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando make Hellraiser the latest classic franchise to get picked up by Saber.
The Hellraiser franchise centers a group of demonic creatures called Cenobites, who have transcended the need for mortal bodies in order to dedicate themselves to extreme acts of sadism, masochism, and body alteration. Actor Doug Bradley will return to voice the iconic “Pinhead” character who has become the face of the franchise.
The new Hellraiser: Revival forgoes the asymmetrical horror many of us have cynically grown accustom to, and instead aims to provide a single-player first-person adventure in the Hellraiser universe.
“Working on the first true Hellraiser game has been a venture deep into the recesses of my darkest imaginings,” said Clive Barker, horror legend and creator of Hellraiser in a press release. “The dedication that Saber and Boss Team Games have shown is nothing short of remarkable. They’ve immersed themselves in the Hellraiser universe, capturing its essence—the seductive pull of suffering, the beauty within the grotesque—and forged a narrative that invites players to step beyond the threshold. I’m eager for both the curious and the damned to experience this new chapter in the Hellraiser mythos, where every moment balances on the brink of nightmare and revelation.”
Saber Interactive CEO and co-founder Matthew Karch added, “Hellraiser is the quintessential horror franchise, and lends itself perfectly to a video game. Saber has had success with horror IPs in the past, and working alongside Clive to create tense gameplay and a new story that delves into the twisted depths of pain and pleasure has been a real treat. We look forward to opening up the gates of hell.”
