[UPDATE]
We now have multiple reports that directly conflict each other, regarding the original tweet posted by the Hello Games twitter account.
While Polygon reported that Hello Games’ boss Sean Murray said that he sent out the Tweet, Mashable is saying Murray claimed it was a disgruntled employee, like the original report via Forbes.
It remains unclear where the tweet came from, and only now Hello Games are saying their email server was hacked, while also making snide jokes towards it being like USA’s excellent TV show, Mr. Robot.
Curiously, their twitter goes on to say “If anything was a mistake, it was using Linked In without 2FA” (editor’s note: two factor authentication). The Hello Games and No Man’s Sky twitter accounts then have an exchange:
“Are you still hacked and stuff?” asked Sean Murray. “100% not hacked anymore… obviously those mails and that tweet were fake. Back to work,” said the Hello Games twitter.

In a somewhat bizarre turn of events, the No Man’s Sky twitter account has posted a somewhat ominous message:
“No Man’s Sky was a mistake” reads the Tweet. Shortly afterwards, the account became protected, and the tweet has since been deleted (archive link for the tweet).
Now before you start thinking something is amiss at the UK-based developer, this Tweet was posted via Linkedin, meaning it was deliberately published (via a disgruntled employee) to the official No Man’s Sky twitter.
