Helldivers 2 will now require PC players to link a PSN account

Helldivers 2

Helldivers 2 announced that PC players will have to connect a PSN (PlayStation Network) account in order to continue playing the game.

As of May 6, all new Helldivers 2 players will be required to link a PSN account; existing players will begin to see the PSN log-in on May 30 and will be required to connect a PSN account by June 4.

It’s worth mentioning that the notice for the requirement is signed by Sony Interactive Entertainment, rather than Arrowhead directly.

The fan response to this news has been less than enthusiastic, with fans quickly pointing out Sony’s history with data breaches, as well as the company’s overzealous approach to censorship and community moderation.

The new requirement puts Helldivers 2 in a similar position to EA Games titles which still unfortunately require Origin to run properly, even through Steam (it’s the main reason I haven’t played the last two Dragon Age games).

Helldivers II is available now for Windows PC (via Steam) and PlayStation 5.
