Hayao Miyazaki Turned Down a Hollywood Remake for Nausicaä

We’ve learned (via NHK) that Studio Ghibli creator Hayao Miyazaki has turned down a Hollywood offer to remake his classic Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind.

While Miyazaki has turned down several Hollywood offers to remake the classic manga into a live-action film, Miyazaki actually gave the ok to adapt the story into a kabuki rendition. This is a big deal considering Miyazaki has claimed Nausicaä is the most important work he has ever created.

The kabuki version will star Onoe Kikunosuke as Nausicaä, and Nakamura Shichinosuke as Princess Kushana. Keiko Niwa (known for writing several Ghibli films) is penning the script on the adaptation.

The kabuki version is set to run from December 6th to the 25th in Tokyo.
