Hatred Developer Hopes to Leave Controversy Behind With New Tactical RTS, Ancestors Legacy

When Destructive Creations announced their next game with Ancestors Legacy, an ambitious tactical RPG set in historical medieval Europe, many were overjoyed at how promising the game was. Some were still unwilling to give the game a chance because of their controversial shooter, Hatred.

Now we’ve learned the Polish developer is looking to leave controversy stirred up with that shooter behind with their new game, news confirmed via PCGamesN.

“I was not part of the team then, so I have only heard stories about it,” Tomek Gop, producer and designer at Destructive Creations said. “But (Destructive Creations) was created by a guy who had a dream of making a very particular game when he was very young. The game looked and felt like it was – I think you could say a wet dream of a 14-year-old guy (laughs). When he first played games like Postal he became a fan.”

The game, which many people are likening to “Company of Heroes… with vikings,” is meant to stand on its own as a competent and rewarding strategy game.

“Yeah it inspired the game. Veterans will notice immediately and we’re not ashamed of that. We are constantly playing multiplayer games like this and customising skirmish experiences,” Gop said. He went on to further elaborate on leaving controversy behind:

“Controversy can only get you so far. People know what Destructive Creations is. People have heard about Hatred, but you’re not going to ride that pony until the very end, and we’re not doing that,” Gop said.

“What you’re going to be able to play on the release of the game is going to be the answer to the question,” Gop claimed. “Whether we can live up to actually being decent developers with good craftsmanship, rather than riding the controversy.”

A release window for Ancestors Legacy is set for sometime this year, for Windows PC.
