Harada: Tekken 7 Probably Won’t Have Cross-Play at Launch

Bandai Namco producer and director Katsuhiro Harada is known to not pull any punches when responding to fans on his own Twitter account. Recently, a fan asked whether or not Tekken 7 would have cross-platform play right from the get-go.

While Harada didn’t outright confirm (via Flying Wonkey) the game would lack cross-platform play, he did make a point in saying that first-party policies from console manufacturers Sony and Microsoft make it very difficult to get everything talking to one another.

The more interesting bit from Harada’s response was the perception that some console gamers have regarding PC gamers, and that they have the potential to cheat – due to their hardware platform being highly configurable and therefore, open.

Harada was clear in saying that he is a big PC gamer himself, so this is not something he personally espouses, rather that it’s a misconception that he hears from other players. The producer did offer to have fans let him know how badly they want cross-play, as its certainly not written off.

Tekken 7 is launching across PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC sometime early next year in North America and Europe. Japanese players will get the same sometime next spring.
