Halo Infinite shuts down new content development

Halo Infinite

Microsoft and Halo Studios have announced Halo Infinite is getting its latest new content update this month, confirming the game is essentially ending.

Halo Infinite will get its final content update on November 18th, after which there will no longer be content updates and the game enters maintenance mode.

“As we look back on four years of evolution and updates in Halo Infinite, we’d like to thank our community for your steadfast support,” the team said in a new blog post. “Without your feedback and enthusiasm, Halo Infinite multiplayer would not be the special place it is today: a robust arena for slaying and playing, with something for every Spartan.”

They added, “With multiple Halo titles in development, we’ll need our whole team’s combined focus to deliver new experiences with the same passion and care that our community has given us. While we remain committed to supporting Halo Infinite on the road ahead, Operation: Infinite is the last major content update currently planned.”

Last year, the game’s long-awaited battle royale mode was reportedly canceled and its team 343 Industries – was rebranded to Halo Studios. At that time, the team was committed to years of content for Halo Infinite, though we’re now learning the game is being killed off.

Those “multiple Halo titles in development” includes the recently announced Halo: Campaign Evolved, the highly-anticipated full remake of the original Halo game’s campaign. It remains to be seen what the other Halo titles will be.

Halo Infinite is available on Windows PC (via the Microsoft StoreSteam), Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. Get our review here!
