HAL Laboratory Celebrates 27th Anniversary of Kirby Franchise

Today is the 27th birthday for the Kirby franchise! The first game, Kirby’s Dream Land, released on this day back in 1992.

Despite the success and popularity of the series, HAL Laboratory boss Shinya Kumazaki has pledged their commitment to the series, regardless of how popular it remains.

Kumazaki said that “as long as there are fans who are looking for a new Kirby game in the world, I would like to take on new and fun challenges, while growing up alongside Kirby. Please look forward to the future of Kirby, and whatever lies ahead still unrevealed.”

Regarding the latest game in the franchise, Kirby: Star Allies, Kumazaki noted the series had until then been “carefully developed”, and the staff were able to “challenge a variety of things that had not been tried before.”

I’ll always have a special place in my heart for the Kirby franchise – Kirby’s Adventure is the first game I remember completing entirely by myself when I was around six years old. Now, my four year old son is playing through Kirby: Star Allies and loving it just as much.

Kirby: Star Allies is now available for the Nintendo Switch. In case you missed it, you can find our review for the game here (we highly recommend it!).
