H1Z1 Rebranded as Z1 Battle Royale, Dev Team is Reformed

Following the launch of their new battle royale mode for H1Z1, Daybreak Games has announced a shift to rebrand the game to better reflect their new focus on the battle royale mode.

The game will eventually be renamed Z1 Battle Royale, a move to obviously line the game up as a competitor to popular battle royale games like Fortnite and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. This transition makes sense, following the news that the game’s original survival mode, which focuses on surviving the zombie apocalypse, is shutting down.

Alongside the big 1.0 update is the news that the game’s development team is “newly re-formed,” however this wasn’t clarified. It’s very likely this means the resources from the game’s soon-to-be-closed Just Survive mode have been moved to the new Battle Royale mode.

A release date for this transition to the new name hasn’t been confirmed, however a public roadmap for updates and improvements will keep players updated.

H1Z1: Battle Royale is also available on PlayStation 4.
