GungHo Online Entertainment (Puzzle & Dragons, Ragnarok Odyssey) has announced a new RPG for smartphones.
Dubbed simply Seventh Rebirth, the new RPG will be free-to-play, and it’s launching sometime later this year in Japan. Featured above, you can view the game’s debut trailer, which actually features an English narrator.
The game has a multitude of talented Japanese veterans working on it, including Final Fantasy XI producer Hiromichi Tanaka and music by Yasunori Mitsuda. According to executive producer Kazuki Morishita, the game started with the team discussing if there were any new MMORPGs focused on smartphones.
From there, he said they’re making it a very traditional RPG, instead of something new just for the sake of being new. There’s a bunch of starting jobs like Fighter, Ranger, Wizard, and Priest – as well as advanced classes like Paladin, Monk, and Ninja.
Players will first prepare for an adventure in your local town, after which you’ll traverse new dungeons and regions from the game’s world map. From what it sounds like, the game’s world map will let you travel without breaking things up into different zones.
Further details weren’t confirmed.
