The hacker behind the Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA6) leaks last year has been sentenced to “an indefinite hospital order”.
The leaker Arion Kurtaj, who at the time was a minor at just 17 will be forced to stay in hospital care indefinitely, possibly for life, until doctors no longer consider him a danger.
According to BBC, Kurtaj remains a “high risk to the public”; he also has allegedly been violent while in custody and “continued to express the intent to return to cybercrime as soon as possible. He is highly motivated”.
Kurtaj, was deemed unfit to stand trial due to his acute autism. This is speculatively part of the reason for his unusual sentencing.
Part of the judge’s worry is also Kurtaj’s amazing skill with technology which renders him a threat if he remains defiant on release. The infamous Rockstar hack came at a time where Kurtaj was already on bail for previous hacks and “despite having his laptop confiscated, Kurtaj managed to breach Rockstar, the company behind GTA, using an Amazon Firestick, his hotel TV and a mobile phone”.
Grand Theft Auto VI isn’t launching until 2025 – and for only Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5.
