Greek and American Olympians Do One Piece Poses, Place 1st and 10th

Olympic Pose

At least two Olympic athletes have been spotted starting off their routines with dramatic poses from the anime series One Piece.

The trend seems to have started with Olympic Greek long jumper Miltiadis Tentoglou doing Luffy’s “Second Gear” pose as he takes to the field. After witnessing the spectacle on YouTube, American shot put thrower Payton Otterdahl solicits ideas from social media of what sort of pose he could do.

On Thursday (Wednesday in the US), Otterdahl took to the field after performing Franky’s “Super” pose; in which Otterdahl rolled his arms and put his wrists together. In the show, the character does this to put the two half-stars on his bracelets together to make a star symbol.

Miltiadis went on to take the Gold in the Men’s Long Jump while Payton placed 10th in Men’s Shot Put.
