Gravity Rush is Getting an Anime Adaptation

gravity rush 09-17-15-1

Sony Computer Entertainment has announced a TV anime based on Gravity Rush.

The news comes via this year’s Tokyo Game Show, in which the publisher announced the anime adaptation.

Further details, like a release window, were not confirmed – but you can expect lots of high-flying adventures with protagonist Kat. Sony will be releasing new information for the TV anime in the future.

It’s certainly interesting to now see this much push for the IP, considering the original game is now getting a PlayStation 4 port, alongside a sequel on PS4 as well.

We’ll keep you guys posted.

Gravity Rush is one of those series that I played and just kinda forgot existed afterwards. All this recent news is bringing back memories, and not necessarily good ones. I mean the game was fun don’t get me wrong, but I’m starting to remember how clearly rushed and half-finished the story was and it’s starting to make me upset. Kinda reminds me of the ending of The World God Only Knows in that respect.

Here’s hoping they actually address a lot of the unresolved/rushed through bits in the new game, or the port, or the anime. Any will do.

It’s good to see Sony finally giving Kat love.

Yeah cliffhangers are a bitch in games. But aside from that, I thought GR was one of the more enjoyable and original games that came out during the previous console cycle. A couple of small areas in the gameplay they could improve on but hopfully the remaster and GR2 will be an improvement.

Nice to see they try to do more with Gravity Rush in Japan. Going to watch it :3 More Kat is always welcome.

I sympathize with you. Gravity Rush was cool for a while, but I didn’t even finish it. I just kind of stopped playing and then it was left on my shelf. I didn’t dislike it, but it just didn’t make an impression on me past, “Oh, wow, this gravity thing is pretty neato.”

Even though I keep seeing the name everywhere, I still have no idea what the game is. When will someone open a betting pool on which video game will be the next to get an anime?

Yeah, the game has some real problems. Best thing about it was potential for a sequel to refine it. Improve the combat (or even just getting rid of it, and focus on platforming), actually explain the story a little bit, etc.

The core gameplay mechanic is really cool. That alone made the game worth playing for me. I spent a lot of time just exploring little nooks and crannies under the city. It’s just a shame the game hardly ever taps into its potential.

At the very least, it’s probably Sony’s most unique IP right now. Glad they’re finally doing stuff with it.

I always saw it as a Mirror’s Edge, people like it more for what it could’ve been rather than what it was.

It really depends on how they decide to adapt it.

yeah, you’re pretty much on the nose. It feels like one of those ideas that could really knock it out of the park with a refinied sequel, since the groundwork has already been setup, like Uncharted to Uncharted 2 or Assassin’s Creed to its sequel.

You mean the Demo contain a stage that, wasn’t in the Demo and the review copy of Gravity Rush had another story conclusion from what I been told.

God Eater by Ufotable (The Studio that did Fate Bad ending route)

The characters are not CG ffs, the Aragami’s are made from CG, but the characters are NOT CG.

Well this is a potentially pleasant surprise. It’ll be nice if this actually becomes a real series, but I’ll wait and see how this new stuff does before I count on that.

Fairly sure that God Arc is CG. Even so, the Aragami’s are all CG, and that’s just terrible. CG should only be use to add minor details to a scene and not be immediately noticeable.

  40. nine_ball
    September 18, 2015 at 3:42 pm

They might speak the made up language for a little bit, just to establish they have their own language, but they’re definitely going to switch to Japanese as fast as they can if they do that.

Honestly no matter how much I love the first game I can’t see an anime being that great, but we’ll see. It just feels like there’s not nearly enough subject material to work with.

But is is getting a sequel. We knew from the first game that the story was not finished and they left it hanging. Right now they’re working on gravity Rush 2 for the PS4 which also includes remastered version of the first game.
