Recent news of leaks for Grand Theft Auto VI took the world by storm last week. Over 90+ video clips were shared along with over 3GB of source code for the game, which Rockstar officially confirmed exists earlier this year.
Now reports have come out that London police have arrested a 17 year old hacker as part of an investigation with the country’s National Cyber Crime Unit. The police said this individual remained in custody as of September 23rd, but have not revealed the identity as they are a minor.
As of this time, they have yet to positively identity this hacker as the same one who leaked the data on Grand Theft Auto VI, nor have they officially connected them to Lapsus$, the group responsible for the leaks.
Journalist Matthew Keys claimed anonymous sources near the case have stated this arrest is in connection with the recent leaks, along with a previous hack on Uber. He also shared that according to sources, this was “done in concert with an investigation conducted by the FBI”.
Rockstar had come out previously confirming the leaks for Grand Theft Auto VI were real, but also did mention they were illegal. Assuming reports on this arrest are true, then this hacker could be seeing some harsh punishments coming their way.
