The Gran Turismo franchise is celebrating two major milestones today.
The first is the 25th year anniversary, as the original title launched in Japan way back on this day in 1997. The other is that the legendary series has attained over 90 million in total sales as of November 16, 2022.
Polyphony Digital CEO Kazunori Yamauchi published a statement of gratitude to the fans around the world who have enjoyed the series over the years.
“Behind that 90 million figure, there are all the people of the media who conveyed the allure of Gran Turismo to their readers.” Yamauchi said.
He added, “There are the people of PlayStation who sold GT for us around the world with passion, and there is the incredible amount of support from the retailers who interfaced with our users.”

Most recently for the series, Gran Turismo 7 launched earlier this year for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. You can check out our review of it here. There is also a movie currently in filming that is set to release next year.
