The House in Fata Morgana is a visually stunning and a thematically unnerving visual novel by critically acclaimed Japanese visual novel studio Novetacle.
In June of last year, Playism publicly said they were considering localizing the award-winning visual novel, after they managed to get the original game onto the Japanese portion of their game portal.
The only way this localization was going to happen, however, was if the original game sold well enough to Japanese users. Unfortunately for those who were anxiously waiting on this to happen, it didn’t sell well enough, and still Playism is interested in localizing the game.

The House in Fata Morgana has won Japanese doujin game awards, and for good reasons. If you download the demo and give it a chance, you’ll be welcomed by a world filled with brilliant visuals, interesting characters, and a horrifying mystery that will easily keep you on your toes. While the demo is an early build, Playism has said that some of the text has to be further polished, and will be updated “as soon as possible.”
So what’s the story all about in The House in Fata Morgana? Although details are scant (as they would easily spoil the game’s story), you play as an amnesiac who wakes up in a terrifying cursed mansion. The house is filled with terror, insanity, and bad people doing evil deeds. The final version is definitely a robust experience, featuring over eight endings (which don’t include bad endings), and a soundtrack that has a staggering 65 tracks from over five composers.
While you can try the first two chapters of the game via the aforementioned demo, you’re probably wondering if there’s still hope for The House in Fata Morgana getting localized. Rest easy my friend, as Playism has confirmed that they are still localizing the game, and that they are exploring over avenues for funding the rest of the localization process.
